To be effective in today's business climate, it is important that HR professionals understand how government works, how legislation impacts the profession and how HR professionals can influence public policy. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has launched an initiative to create a nationwide member advocacy network of HR Advocates collectively known as the Advocacy Team, or A-Team, to fully engage our members in the public policy process.
SHRM, Delaware State Council, and DelMarVa SHRM are pleased to host a SHRM Advocacy Team (A-Team) session in Delaware on September 20, 2011. The sessions are designed to inform and educate HR professionals about how to engage in the public policy process as HR Advocates or Advocacy Captains (Advocacy Captains are key contacts helping coordinate SHRM's efforts in each congressional district).
During the program, David Lusk, SHRM's Senior Associate for Member Advocacy, will take you through the basic steps of becoming involved in the public policy process; provide best practices for contacting, meeting with and building lasting relationships with elected officials and their staff outside of Washington; and, touch upon effective ways of communicating the HR professional’s perspective on key workplace issues.
Networking – 5:30pm, Dinner – 6:15pm, Speaker – 6:45 – 8pm
The A-Team program has been pre-approved for 1.5 hours of HR Certification Institute strategic recertification credit hours. Please RSVP as noted below by Wednesday, September 14, 2011, to attend this valuable session.
